The Department of Philosophy and Religion extends a warm welcome to our newest faculty member, Dr. Nicole Karapanagiotis, Assistant Professor of Religion.
Dr. Karapanagiotis joins the Department in Fall 2015 as a specialist in Hinduism, ritual, and technology. She is currently writing a book entitled Does Cyber-Smoke Reach the Gods? Online Hinduism and the Tensions of Tradition, in which she explores the ways in which Hindu devotees navigate enduring religious questions—divine embodiment, ritual practice, and the construction and maintenance of sacred space—as they encounter and perform ritual across new media. She will teach courses in World Religions; Asian Religions; Hinduism; Religion, Renunciation, and Desire; Ritual; Religion and Technology; and the Anthropology/Ethnography of South Asian Religions.
