The Department of Philosophy and Religion is pleased to announce the creation of the Student Conference Travel Fund. The Fund provides departmental majors and minors up to $250 per student toward the cost of attending an academic conference. Funding can be used for any related expenses, including air fare, train fare, accommodations, and conference registration. It cannot be used for meals or purchasing books or other materials.
The Fund is awarded each semester on a competitive basis. Students must apply by submitting a Proposal in writing to the Department Chair at least two weeks prior to the conference. The Proposal must include
- the name of the applicant;
- the name, dates, location, and website of the conference;
- a one-paragraph explanation of why the student wishes to attend the conference, including, if applicable, a title and description of the paper they will present; and (
- a budget explaining in detail what the funding will be used for.
Priority will be given to students presenting conference papers, but students simply wishing to attend a conference will also be given consideration. Successful applicants will be asked to save all relevant receipts while traveling so that they can be reimbursed upon their return, a process that usually takes about two weeks.
